More than an infrared thermometer...
When using a thermometer, you cannot measure the temperature of all cylinders at the same time, so when you measure the last cylinder of a 4-cylinders engine, the temperature of the one you measured first, has since increased by at least 15-20 ° C. However, these differences are significant and REDtech helps you identify them.

Quickly identify abnormal efficiency of a cylinder
The great value of Redtech labels is that they enable a quick diagnosis of an engine, for example, when buying a motorcycle or classic car, or during maintenance. Redtech offers even more value when engines have a large number of cylinders, since in this case the engine’s noise cannot help to identify bad cylinders.
People use to say that an engine that does not run smoothly is noticeable with its noise. Yes, that’s right, but it’s not always easy to identify the wrong cylinder(s) and especially if a cylinder is not fully bad.
In several cases, the engine seems to be running smoothly but in fact all cylinders are not delivering the same power. In this case, Redtech helps identifying the cylinders that are not fully operating.
With engines having 6 or more cylinders, partial or full failure of one or more cylinders, may not be heard. Redtech then offers a great help to identify very quickly and at low-cost, these bad cylinders.
Identify several problems with an engine
Redtech has another great advantage: it evaluate all cylinders at the same time. Redtech’s principle is to compare the performance of all cylinders, so the best and worst elements of the engine are highlighted.
Redtech labels do not aim to find the cause of the failure, but to identify any malfunctioning of the engine. However the information provided by the product may help guide research. The following examples show how Redtech can help you identify the causes of problems:
Example 1: After performing the test on a 6-cylinders engine, you can see that labels of the first 3 cylinders are less colored. If these 3 cylinders are supplied by the same intake pipe (i.e. Austin Healey 3000), we can suspect a problem with the intake pipe as a vent or a malfunctioning carburetor that is connected to this intake pipe.
Example 2: After running the test on a 4-cylinders engine, you find that one of the labels is not colored at all. In this case, we deduce that no or very few explosions have occurred in this cylinder. Research should therefore be a priority on the ignition related to the concerned cylinder (wire, distributor cap, spark plug, …). In case of an engine with one carburettor per cylinder (i.e. motorcycle), research will also concern the fuel feeding of the concerned carburettor.
REDtech does not replace a compression gauge but...
Redtech does not replace equipments like the compression gauge, vacuum gauge, bore scope or other tools, but allows getting quickly a good idea of engine operation. Redtech has the enormous advantage that you can have it all the time in your pocket. When you purchase a vehicle, it is often difficult to carry a lot of tools to perform a detailed check of the vehicle.
In addition, making several engine controls requires time. For example, a compression test requires nearly 30 minutes, while Redtech has delivered its verdict in less than 10 minutes.
